The Timber House is a parking garage in Copenhagen’s new urban area Nordhavn. The pixelated facade of wood and recycled aluminum reference the ends of stacked timber beams. This expression is an homage to the area’s 19th century history as a place that stored and handled timber. It encourages drivers to park and use the neighbouring metro station to and from the city centre or explore the area on foot. In addition to parking spaces, it adds a playful element to the area with a vibrant, green outer perimeter, (coming) shops and meeting places as well as a Kiss-n-Ride function. Concrete and wood parking lot dedicated to carpooling developed for Audemars Piguet. The structure of the parking lot with sloping slabs connected to each other forms a path along which the parking spaces are arranged. Think Utopia This strategy allows a compact project that adapts perfectly to the natural slope of the land, thus obtaining a calligraphic silhouette that reflects the structural concept through its volumetry. The filling between the slabs and the reinforced concrete parapets is a wooden cladding whose slats follow different inclinations to protect the building from the weather and at the same time allow natural ventilation thanks to their spacing. The upper planning identifies this area as a site to be densified by mixed uses. The issues at stake include the creation of an urbanization that complements the existing neighbourhood and protects the natural environment. Along the water Just west of Amsterdam’s Central Station a new extension of Amsterdam is being built. Of the three Houthavens (Timberdocks), the middle one is being transformed into a residential area. The Pontsteiger building is the 90-meter high icon that functions as the landmark of this development. It is a robust, square building towering above the water in a bend of the river IJ. A dam connects the building to the Tasmanstraat. The entrance to the two underground parking garages is also to be found on this dam. A new square for the city What used to be the backside of Utrecht Central Station, a dead and windy plain that offered a colorless route to the Jaarbeurs complex, is now transforming into a new square for the city of Utrecht. It is meant to become a pleasant transit area, but also a great area to linger, to sit and have a chat under a tree or in the sun, or have a sandwich. Not only for the bus and train travellers but also for all the people working in or visiting the new city hall, or the guests of the hotels around the square. Collalbo makes you mobile: With the new mobility centre in Collalbo, Roland Baldi Architects and Pfeifer Partners have built a user-friendly transport hub with underground car park, parking lot and bus station. The connection to the nearby station of the historic Renon railway completes the local transport concept. The mobility centre was carefully coordinated in proportion and material with the Civil protection centre also designed by Roland Baldi Architects. It redefines public and private traffic routing of the entire municipality and gives the site a new, contemporary and distinctive face. Más
