The project was born out of our desire for a home ownership, where the motivation exceed the housing needs of the users, adding to that the desire to experiment with architectural themes of our interest related to housing; research already addressed in our professional work as independent architects and university teachers.
The plot of land measured 10 m x20 m, located in the neighbourhood of Hipódromo de La Plata. We preferred a consolidated urban sector, but on a neighbourhood scale. Building on a such small lot represented a challenging but also exciting experience, here the search for exterior and semi-exterior spaces became more complex.
Throughout the designing process, the program and the parti changed many times. As a result of many discussions, the program was solved on three levels. Even though the sizes of the spaces are not generous, the leading role is taken by the intermediate spaces and the expansions. These spaces expand the limit perception of interiors and qualifies them.
Having one of Le Corbusier masterpieces, the Curuchet House located in La Plata city inspired our work, consciously or not, and this becomes clear as the result is analysed. Many similarities link these two houses, among them the site, the transitions between private and public spaces, the programmatic review and the importance of intermediate spaces.
The role of the material and its tectonics are indisputable. The choice of each material was linked to sensory preferences and aptitudes related to their nobility and durability. The work of materiality is not focused on polarizing the structural and enclosure elements, but rather on giving meaning to a composition of articulated parts, where the spatial sequence (promenade architectural) is the tool that verifies the will and expression of each one of them in connection with the other, without losing the reading of the totality.
