The story of Las Colinas begins in 1928 with the Carpenter family, who lived in Highland Park. They purchased 1,500 acres northwest of town, between Hackberry and Cottonwood creeks, just across the Elm Fork of the Trinity River from a historic wagon-train ford called California Crossing. This land became the family’s weekend retreat, and they named the property “El Ranchito de las Colinas,” translated as “The Little Ranch of the Hills.” The ranch was the family’s favorite place to relax, connect and enjoy the beautiful Texas landscape.
